optimum rev for vvl engagement

#34119

Post by Neo-STi » Mon Dec 03, 2012 5:54 pm

Greetings fellow high revvers! i am a fairly new sr20ve driver running a pretty standard setup-black top sr20ve with short ram air intake and dicktator engine management. the specific tuner that i took my vehicle to has set my vvl to engage at 3650rpm an it revs all the way to 8200rpm, there are no noticeable flatspots in the rev range but i cant help but wonder if my vvl kicking in too early is affecting power and torque figures since the standard vvl engages at 5500rpm. Any help would be appreciated regarding the optimum rev to set vvl engagement at for maximum power and torque output

That does seem a bit low but it wont affect the top end power.

What camshafts are you using?

The best way to map is map without cams all the way, wait till the first power band kicks off then engage the intake, then again wait till power goes off then engage the exhaust.

yep,to me that's a bit low too.most guy's i've seen do 48-5200 rpm.every motors different but.

this is what i've been told to do if you've got something like a greddy mss to switch over?

1.set both switches to say 65-7000rpm.record a run on low cams till it runs out of puff.

2.set intake to switch almost straight away, leave exhaust up high.record a run.

3.set exhaust to switch almost straight away, leave intake up high.record a run

4.switch both to high cam almost straight away.record a run.

overlap the 4 maps.some good switch point's should appear between the 1 and 4 lines.intake first.

if not,try 5k for both.
