As Nissans are a pain in the arse for Rad Supports rotting, the one on the car was in good condition, So time to wire brush it's ass and then give it a new lick of paint, I used Zinc Oxide Primer, Black Paint and finally Stone Chip..

Then time to finish the pipework for the Hydraulic Clutch....The good thing all clips and bolt holes are already there to bolt right up...

Now time to so some loom modifications, First was for to feed from the Tacho....for the Greddy MSS.

I then fitted the wiring loom to the engine. The ironic thing is this Primera was a little unique, The Loom and old engine was for a Side Feed Injector setup, It meant no major modification to the loom other than tapping it for the tacho, Everything matched right up for the cables...except the Earth Straps at the back of the engine....easily sorted though.

I then got the engine put into place...

I then cracked on, and was filly built her up, bled the clutch, added all fluids etc and stuff. She is now Alive...

Took a wee while to get the fuel through, and also PAS pump was a little dry but it soon cleared up....

Next was a nice little drive, No Greddy MSS was fitted hence no high revving, but certainly feels lovely in the primera.

This was a temporary engine bay...Still had a new Filter to fit and other odds and sods to do.

Now was onto the wiring, I had a lot to do, so I decided I wanted to be safe, I wanted it to last, and not drain the aging wiring already in the car. So I fitted a brand new feed for to run all of the extras I planned on adding...

I added a Fused Relay to feed a new little fuse box I added which would run the Greddy, AFR, Oil Press Guage, and other stuff if I wanted to add it. The Relay would switch off the feed from the battery once ignition was switched off.

Soldered wires of course...

Time for a wee History Lession now... So I rebuild the engine a few years ago, it was put back into our old VZR, Full details are shown here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2465

but here is a quick update on how it progressed.

When we got the VZR N1 it was in pretty poor state, As you can hear in this video earlier life of this N1 engine did not sound promising...

It did not look very nice either...

Anyways I then stripped down the engine, and turned out it had a missing bearing on Cyl 4, I think someone tried to fix it, realised it was a rare engine and cant get parts...which you can but they did not have the knowledge of these engine.

The N1 Crank and Rods were shot, however the pistons, Block and Head all survived the ordeal. This was good news as the engine could be salvaged. We now knew that the engine would be rebuilt from scratch, and stroked to a 2.0L.

In came the parts...All came in from GSpec Performance in the USA.

We decided to upgrade the clutch...and though I would give the black diamond Kevlar one a try...

I knew if I am going for more power than a stock SR20VE I did not want to Injectors to run too hard...so time for some new 370cc Deatschwerks ones...

I had also robbed parts from other SRxxVE Engines I had purchased, I purchased a rebuilt SR20VE engine from someone up north, which I planned on slotting right into the VZR untill I found a lot of faults with it....The Internal Parts were gold though so I stripped it, used the Pistons, H-Beam Rods, and other stuff...

Anyways Now I had all the parts, it was time for a rebuild...First off was to get the Block and Head sent off for refurbishment...

Block Skimmed, De-Glazed (Honed) and cleaned ready...

Then to get the head all rebuilt, skimmed, valves reseated, stem seals replaced, and cleaned...

Now since this was a custom build, I had to do some calculations using @97vzr 's formulas, Using N1 Pistons with SR20DE Crank and Rods would yield approx 13.7:1...too high for road use and could cause detonation with Unleaded...so I got 1mm shaved off the Piston Crown and 1mm Deeper Valve Reliefs so I can do future timing mods...I also had to get the skirts modified to clear the Oil squirters.. Anyways end result would look at around 12.5:1ish...Bear in Mind I am using an N1 Head which factory has 1mm shaved off too..

Now one of the reasons I opted to use the N1 Pistons was for 2 reasons...one easily modified to bring compression ratio, and second the N1 Pistons have an Oil Gallery under them so when the squirters jet oil it fills a cavity in the Piston to aid with cooling, especially when at high RPM...

I also got all the internals balanced too, so everything was modified weight and so on...including the Flywheel, Crank, Pistons, Rods, Clutch, Pulley, even the bolts were added into the mix...

Pistons skimmed and marked with the weights...

Clutch and Flywheel all done...

Now for extra protection and better performance..I got the pistons sent off to be thermal coated and barriered. The thermal coating stops the piston getting too hot as all the heat will be sent out the exhaust and the barrier helps protect the piston if there was any detonation...

So it was then time to start building...it started life like this...

Then in with the crank which we used from @WeeFeeVZR's first SR20DE Almera GTi...

Slowly but surely she started to come together. All rings were gapped everything torqued to Factory, and double checked, I also used Redline Assembly Lubrication to help protect the engine at early life.

Time to get the camshafts in and all timed with a brand new Genuine Nissan Chain Kit fitted...

Then it was nearly time to be slotted back into the car and relive again...

Now I never got a first start video...I was too busy with checks...but I got the second startup...

The engine ran like shite for about 300 miles as she bedded in, the more driving the better it did get. I used Mineral Diesel Oil 15w40 to run the engine in, First oil change was at 50 miles...after this 50 miles the oil came out like pish water and was black, the oil was being worked very hard, the oil was changed ever 150 miles there after and oil started to clean about 500 miles... Fine shards of metal was picked up with the magnetic sump plug at early life,

I used Diesel Mineral Oil as it had poor viscosity, and causes a lot of wear and does not last long, A lot of older cars use it, I needed an oil which would cause wear to essentially wear in the Piston Rings.

At 1000 Miles I switched to 5w30 Castrol Edge Fully Synthetic, Oil was changed with the same at around 5000 miles and i then opted to changed to stock 10w40 Castrol Edge Fully Synthetic at 9k miles. Last oil change was pretty good, was not that dirty, was actually pretty clean, engine did not burn any oil...and no shards of metal on the sump plug...The engine will be due another oil change at the end of this winter...

Oh and since it had a bigger intake I had this custom made... Big Thanks to Complete Auto Solutions based in Shotts for this one.

So as you now know it will now live it it's life in the Ginger, engine runs amazing and am pretty impressed with my first build..drives like a good daily too so I have the best of both worlds..

I still have more plans for the engine, I still to reshim the head so the tolerances are even tighter, and I still to dial the cams in, I done my own mapping in the engine and works well but once all the development it done I will have a full remap done...

The only Filter I could find big enough for the Intake was a Skyline one...an HKS one to be precise.

The car had now clocked a little over 70k miles now, done about 1500 Miles since I fitted the engine, no issues, So now was time to use the good blood for the gearbox, Went for Redline MT90 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil.

Finally I took her down to Leicester, about 640 round trip on the same day as someone purchased out old VZR gearbox. Here is a short cruising video and a short burst. The car still had OEM Exhaust so is not at full potential. As I have a baby on the way now I need to look at my options for a quiet exhaust.. I may just go got a 2.25" Anyways enjoy the shart Video...

So back in januaray, i had a little issue where the car broke down in the driveway, turned out after being a pain in the arse for a long time the fuel pump had failed, I checked it back to an OEM one and engine burst back to life, I think I wont use an HRC one again but go for a Walbro number, but also considering a Deatchwerx one.

I have also started a new job, so I decided to put the car back on the road, I had planned on using it for work use but the first week ate a shit load of fuel, I opted to go back to the Almera for work and that used only a 1/3rd of fuel for the same distance, I will ensure that she is used only for weekends now.

I also done a temporary fix on the sunroof. Its amazing what a bit instant gasket can do. I will resolve this problem later, Other than that I love driving this car. Best one I have had.

This is our Machine, it certainly feels more adult than the VZR, still a lot of fun to drive. And she is now half mine :) :D
If its no Jap its crap !
